In Nov. 2000, Jamie Moore began his career with Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, a company that has 76 restaurants, 46 healthcare accounts and 44 college and business dining accounts throughout PA, WV, OH, MD, MI and NY. As the manager of purchasing for their on-site brands division he emphasized the need to develop and maintain innovative programs that would separate Eat’n Park Hospitality Group from their competitors.

Mike and his wife, Terra, own and operate Spiral Path Farm, a 200-acre vegetable farm in Perry County. Mike began farming in 1974, moved to his current location in 1978 and operated a farrow-to-finish hog operation and grew hay and grain crops for 15 years.

Jerry is a soil and crop consultant for livestock farms and ranches. After attending North Carolina State University, Jerry operated a cow/calf operation in West Virginia and was the marketing director at the National Farmers Organization in the Northeast.

Eric is an instructor and plant science program director for Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center in Petersburg, PA and has degrees in Economic Botany, Horticulture and Forest Resources. He provides landscape and forest management leadership at Shaver’s Creek and teaches courses for the Penn State School of Forest Resources on woody and herbaceous plant identification, non-native invasive plants and agroforestry (riparian forest buffers, windbreaks, forest farming).

Melanie grew up milking Jersey cows on her parents' farm. She returned to the farm after graduating from Va Tech, and helped to milk while working off-farm. Her first PASA conference introduced her to cheesemaking and in 2001, she began making cheese and farming full-time.

T. Lyle was born and raised on his farm in western Pennsylvania and learned over 30 years ago the importance of value-added products. At that time, he and his wife, Betty, set up an organic flour mill to process their own grains and those of local producers in their area. Theirs was one of the first western Pennsylvania farms to be certified organic.

Sue is a first generation dairy farmer milking 80 cows with her family at Birchrun Hills Farm. Sue makes raw milk cheeses from her dairy herd and direct markets the cheese through farmers’ markets, restaurants and specialty cheese shops. Sue is committed to working with farmers to promote educational opportunities in sustainability, marketing and adding value to their agricultural products.

Rita Resick has been farming since buying a Somerset County farm in 1998. She and her business partners transitioned from growing chip potatoes to table potatoes, green beans and sweet onions. They branded their new products, and began working with grocery and wholesale markets.

Heidi Secord, along with her husband, owns and operates the 48-acre Josie Porter Farm. Using biodynamic growing methods the farm supports a 100-member CSA on land leased from a local municipality.

Ted LeBow is a serial entrepreneur. His first business venture was a farm in Idaho where in 1980, he bought his first tractor, signed his first loan with the Production Credit Association, and started waking up in the middle of the night worrying about the rain ruining his hay crop.

Dave is an active member of PASA participating actively through presentations, workshops and facilitated discussions at recent annual meetings and summer ecologically-based pest management workshops. Dave has been on the faculty at Penn State since 2001 and before that held a similar position at the University of Nebraska.
