The second in a seasonal sequence of Master Classes on organic orcharding. Primarily, discussion and demonstrations will focus on apple trees, though many principles might well apply to other tree fruit. If it's your first time at Kretschmann Organic Farm, we'll spend a little time familiarizing with the history of the orchard itself. You'll see three blocks of apple trees (one of which is trellised) planted at about 10 year intervals. We'll focus on what concerns the grower during the winter season, with an emphasis on the essential winter task of pruning. Pruning is sometimes the hardest task to learn from a book since each and every tree is different. We'll start off with the simplest instructions for total beginners and work our way into mature trees and that universe of considerations. Lest you think we've got it all together, come and learn from our mistakes!
Please come dressed to be outside and in the orchard.
Next meeting will be scheduled in the spring.
Pre-registration is required for this program. Please register here.
Due to the unpredictability of January weather, please register in advance, so that we can be in touch should the event be canceled due to winter weather conditions.
