Join us for a day in the field, bug hunting and checking under row covers! This day encompasses research in motion, illustrating new approaches for managing nutrients, cucumber beetles, squash bugs and bacterial wilt for organic Cucurbits.
Come and see where research science and field work intersect. We’ll look at several specific trials unique to organic Cucurbit production. Different rates of compost application are being compared to determine if lower rates can be used successfully. Inoculations of Rhizobacteria as (organically approved) seed treatments are being evaluated in combination with compost to determine how they affect plant resistance to pests. Various timing of row cover removal is being evaluated to determine how the timing of “uncovering” influences protection from these insect pests.
Participants will have the opportunity to observe field trials in action and to experience the results of this year’s trials as they are unfolding. Additionally, specialists will be on hand to present and discuss information. Lunch will be provided.
