Regional Advisory Committee Service Description
The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture

PASA's strength as an organization benefits tremendously from having member-based Regional Advisory Committees (RAC) actively engaged in our four membership regions (North Central, Southeast, South Central and Western).

The role of the Advisory Committee is to provide support and guidance for PASA programs on a local level in coordination with PASA's regional office staff (currently Southeast & Western) or the Headquarters office in Centre County. Advisory committees help strengthen current programs, as well as aid in development of strategic initiatives for long-term planning.

A successful RAC depends upon volunteer members working to provide:

• Assistance in growing & retaining PASA memberships
• Coordination of networking (ex: potlucks, informal farm gatherings) & local/regional educational events
• Continuity by serving a one-year term & attendance at 2 regional meetings annually
• Volunteer PASA representation at local events
• Identification of members in the region interested in serving on the PASA Board of Directors
• Promotion of PASA fee-based programs; including Farm-Based Education, Buy Fresh Buy Local & Good Food Neighborhood, Farming for the Future conference & Sustainable Certification
In regions where PASA does not currently have an office, the RAC will elect a regional contact person. This person will serve as the coordinator for the committee helping to direct RAC efforts as a whole.

As PASA's membership grows, the role of the Regional Advisory Committee takes on even greater importance, providing a critical link between PASA's governing Board of Directors, staff, our diverse membership, and the potential audience for new members.

We hope you will embrace the opportunity to get involved. Your initiative and insights add greatly to PASA's presence and ultimately to our success in "farming for the future."
