Small Scale Sustainable Farming
Date: August
23
Time: 10:00am-3:00pm
Location: Fresh From the Vines, CRAWFORD Co.
Come learn about high tunnel construction, costs and production
and no-till raised beds in the open air garden. Rebecca and David
Vines will detail how they’ve grown their farm to include
asparagus beds, a blueberry patch and fruit trees. Animals and chickens
play an important role in their operation and we’ll learn
how the Vines care for both animals and their hayfield naturally.
We’ll also learn about selling at a farmer’s market
and a natural foods cooperative, record keeping and operating a
home processing kitchen. The Vines also harvest wood from their
forest to heat their home and will share what they have learned
from that experience.
Fresh from the Vines
is a small, sustainable farm owned by David and Rebecca Vines. They
have been growing vegetables for the past few years and each year
the operation continues to grow. David works on the farm full time
and Rebecca works at the Whole Foods Cooperative in Erie, PA as
well as on the farm. They look forward to someday reaching their
goal of producing enough good food to meet the demands of their
customers.
