Marketing Infrastructure
PASA wants to support marketing infrastructure in the southeast, including buying clubs, cooperatives, farmers’ markets, CSA’s and farmer networks. Let us know your ideas.

Buy Fresh/Buy Local
It has become increasingly clear in recent years that if family farms are to flourish once again across the American countryside, farmers must reconnect in a meaningful way with their closest neighbors and with the rural communities in their region. Fueling this potential relationship, consumers everywhere have increased interest in the quality and safety of their food supply, and they are expressing a preference to buy food that is grown on nearby farms using methods that assure accountability and high quality. What they need in order to succeed is some kind of navigation system to guide their efforts. Such a navigation system is now becoming available in various regions across Pennsylvania.

Recently in southeastern Pennsylvania, PASA and its partners - the Philadelphia Fair Food Project and Farm to City, unveiled an innovative marketing campaign called ‘Buy Fresh/Buy Local’ that will aim to connect farmers and consumers through a variety of methods, including a network of farmers’ markets, CSAs, restaurants, caterers and other market venues, focusing specifically on Philadelphia for this first stage of the campaign. The campaign will utilize a Local Food Guide, the website www.buylocalpa.org, numerous point-of purchase materials and traditional advertising to get the word out to consumers about where they can encounter the agricultural bounty of the region.

Our eventual aim is to make sure that consumers anywhere in the Commonwealth have a reliable method of identifying farm-fresh products grown in their region by farmers who know the value of their local customers. Farmers or consumers who are interested to participate in the Buy Fresh/Buy Local campaigns being organized should contact PASA for more information.

The Buy Fresh/Buy Local campaign in Pennsylvania is part of an even larger nationwide Buy Local Initiative organized by FoodRoutes Network, our neighbor in Millheim, which provides communication tools, networking opportunities, and information resources to organizations working to rebuild local food systems across the country.

Sustainable Meat Marketing
PASA is looking to pull together a comprehensive project that addresses supply, demand, transportation, and processing of sustainably-produced meat, poultry and dairy products. As the first step, we’re looking to put together a directory of pasture-based products. If you would like to be included in such a directory, please let us know.

General PASA Outreach
We are also looking for opportunities to promote PASA to individuals, organizations and the media in the southeast.
