Event Description
Join PASA and Pennypack Farm as we kick off the 2017 CRAFT schedule in southeast PA. During this afternoon, the farmers at Pennypack will be giving a tour of their farm’s propagation operation, including their greenhouses and crop planning process in preparation for their 2017 summer CSA. Discussion about their soil mix, which Pennypack makes on-site, and considerations in germination and hardening off of seedlings will be included. This is a good opportunity for farmers interested in talking with another farm about their propagation practices, as well as those interested in greenhouse work, to deepen and expand their knowledge set. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated. Wednesday, April 26, 3-6pm.
Registration will be open from 1/28/2017 to 4/25/2017 at noon.
Speaker & Host Information
Farmer Mike Ahlert, along with his wife, Charis Lindrooth, are the owners of Red Earth Farm. Red Earth Farm’s CSA program was ten years old in 2016 and consists over 600 members.

Farm Manager Kim Butz joined the Red Earth team in 2016, in part to help the farm navigate the regulatory aspects of their Harmonized GAP-certification. Kim has a background in agriculture, as well as the natural gas industry, which served as a good training ground in learning to work with government agencies and regulatory compliance.

Brenda Sheaffer is the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Fruit/Vegetable Commodity Program Supervisor. She has worked with Red Earth regarding their Harmonized GAP certification, and has performed many inspections and consultations with farms around GAP, in general.
