The program will be held at the Chester County Economic Development Council
737 Constitution Drive, Exton PA  19341 (1/4 mile from the Downingtown exit of the PA turnpike)

The ability to plan for equipment needs, a diversified income stream from various enterprises, securing farm land, identifying funding sources for part-time and small-scale farms are all critical growth steps for experienced and beginning farmers. This workshop will provide participants with the resources to assemble and develop their own agricultural plan using holistic planning concepts. The critical steps in “pitching” your plan to a potential agricultural lender or micro-loan funder, negotiating farm land leases and making a successful farm transition happen will be discussed by a panel of small-scale farmers and a variety of financial representatives. This workshop presents key information to avoiding pitfalls experienced by others as they moved toward a fulfilling farming experience. This workshop is highly recommended for both aspiring farmers, operations looking to diversify and grow as well as landowners looking to lease or transition their farms to future farmers.

This program is supported in part by funding through USDA Risk Management Agency.
Chris Lent and Norm Conrad are both agriculture specialists with the National Center for Appropriate Technology and the ATTRA Project based in the Pennsylvania office. Chris operated a certified organic CSA – Lent Organics, and has worked in the farm energy field. Norm is a former senior extension educator. Both presenters have farms in central Pennsylvania and have over 50 years combined farming experience.

Program partners include PASA (Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture), one of the oldest and largest member based sustainable ag organizations in the US, and Greener Partners, developers of the Tri-state C.R.A.F.T (the Collaborative Alliance for Farmer Training) program of field days and workshops at some of the finest organic and bio-dynamic farms of this region.
