You are invited to join PASA at Greensgrow Farms to see and learn firsthand why Mary Seton Corboy won this year's PASAbilities Sustainable Ag Leadership Award and why the farm is recognized as a national model in urban agriculture. This workshop will feature a farm tour and overview of the farm in the morning. After lunch, discussions will focus on Greensgrow's CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) operation. Through a cooperative CSA model, Greensgrow offers products not only from their farm, but also from a variety of entrepreneurs in the region, from bakeries to breweries. Participants will learn how the Greensgrow CSA model mimics the way people cook and eat, rather than providing just one of the food groups. Participants will gain an understanding of the benefits and challenges of operating a diverse CSA, logistics and best practices for coordinating with an array of businesses and considerations for making your CSA a profitable community-building enterprise.

About the Farm.

Since 1997, Greensgrow has served the Philadelphia community with a farm stand, nursery and a 600-member CSA program. Revitalizing the former site of a galvanized steel plant, the farm spans a square city block and all produce is grown hydroponically or in raised beds. In addition to produce and dairy, CSA members may enjoy fruits, prepared goods, beer, ciders, honey, pasta, hormone-free meats, eggs and breads. The farm offers self-guided tours and lessons in composting, hydroponic growing and raising bees.
