In year three of operating your farm business, “the shine comes off the penny.”

That’s according to Chris Blanchard, host of the nationally renowned Farmer to Farmer podcast. In year three, farming may not feel new and exciting anymore. You’ve taken off your rose-colored glasses and are critically evaluating your farm. You can more clearly see your opportunities and challenges. You can better envision your business’ future, and are considering its long-term financial viability.

be.wild.er farm is a vegetable farm in its third year of operation. Farmer Megan Gallagher will take you on a tour of her farm, and discuss the rewards and difficulties of starting a diversified vegetable farm on leased land in western Pennsylvania. She’ll also discuss her experience finding and servicing markets for her products, and accessing tools and capital as a first-generation farmer.

Speaker information

Megan Gallagher is the farmer-owner of be.wild.er farm in Natrona Heights, PA. Megan first became interested in farming as a student at Chatham University where she studied art history. She worked with Edible Earth Farm in Tionesta and Butter Hill Farm in Allison Park before starting be.wild.er farm. She markets her products in the City of Pittsburgh through farmers markets, CSA shares, and restaurants.

Additional information

This is a CRAFT event. CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) events are designed for aspiring and beginning farmers, but can nonetheless provide valuable opportunities for experienced farmers to glean insights from their peers.
