Take Action

PASA will list action alerts on various ag/food policy issues on this page.

PASA often promotes ways for our members and supporters to voice their opinions regarding various legislative issues on state and federal levels - as well as commenting on developing board position statements.

Farm Bill 2012
Update on U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee draft Farm Bill
Beginning Farmer and Rancher Opportunity Act
Learn More & Take Action - This bill would improve existing credit programs so young and beginning farmers can access the financing necessary to run their businesses. It would reauthorize important conservation programs that foster new life-long stewards of the land and encourage innovative strategies for land transfer and farm entry. The bill also invests farm bill dollars in training veterans who want to launch a ranching or farming business.

Local Farms, Food and Jobs Act
Learn More & Take Action - The bill will address the needs of consumers in accessing food from their local communities and the needs of farmers and ranchers producing for local and regional markets, including infrastructure and processing capabilities.  While there are growing “relocalization” efforts and local food economies are expanding across the nation, policy reforms are needed to overcome barriers and more fully capitalize on the new farming opportunities, jobs, and economic growth this sector can deliver.

GMO Policy & Labeling Action

If there’s one thing on which we should all agree, it’s that we all have a right to know what’s in our food!

In a country that often overdoes it in terms of what goes on labels, it’s inexcusable that there are no laws in the U.S. requiring labeling of genetically engineered (GE) ingredients in foods. The vast majority of Americans believe such labels should exist, yet this is another one of those critical areas where industry has our lawmakers held in check so they cannot act on behalf of ordinary citizens.

PASA has joined an effort with a host of other organizations representing millions of Americans called the Just Label It: We Have A Right to Know campaign. The campaign supports a petition to the FDA that calls for products that use ingredients produced with genetic engineering to disclose this information on the label.
